Aaron and Doug look back at Week 8 of the Western Big Six and area football teams and consider the playoff positions for many of these teams.

Rock Island 22 Quincy 21
Rocky is done with their season and will sit and wait on the edge of the playoff bubble to see if they get a post-season berth. Aaron gives Rocky fans something to raise their hopes – 84% of 5 win teams that weren’t conference championships in the last 10 years were given playoff spots in IHSA. Quincy is in the same position, but could be on the outside looking in.

Moline 30 Galesburg 6
The Maroons finish 5-0 in conference play and look to finish the season at home this Friday against Rich South (3-5). The Moline 7-2 record should bring some playoff football to Browning Field this year.

Alleman 42 United Township 20
Alleman takes on Kankakee Friday night to close out the regular season and enters the playoff without a statement win. The road to the championship game will be a little more rocky for the Pioneers.

Wins by Galesburg, United Township do nothing but help Rock Island and Quincy in their push for the playoffs. Aaron explains how a UT Panther win helps Rock Island in a bigger way.

The guys then look at the playoff pictures for: Annawan-Wethersfield, Mercer County, Orion, Morrison, Sterling Newman, Riverdale, Kewanee, Sherrard, Geneseo, Sterling.

Podcast #9 – 2011 Football Week 7 Recap

Cody is on his bye week and Aaron and Doug go “duo” on this episode.  The guys go over some of last week’s results:

Alleman’s QB situation and rushing options are discussed. The Alleman defense was also able to “shut down” the dynamic sophomore Rock Island RB, Brandon Richardson.

Moline 46 United Township 32
United Quarterback, Gilbert Venegas racks up 433 total yards against the Maroons. However Garret Miner, Deshawn Johnson and the rest of the Moline offense are too much for the Panthers.

Quincy 30 Galesburg 22
Quincy gets the win, fighting for their playoff lives.

Podcast #8 – Football: Week 6 Recap

Cody and Aaron are Doug-less for this episode.  Both of the guys were at the Moline/Alleman game this last Friday and talk about the game, which had major conference championship implications.  The Maroons were able to shut down the Pioneer rushing attack and walked out with a 24-21 victory.

The UT winning streak comes to an end down in Quincy.  Brandon Richardson rushes for an incredible 330 yards and five touchdowns in Rock Island’s win over Galesburg.  The guys also look at some of the sophomore’s season stats.  Aaron speaks on the search for the possible candidates for a replacement for Vic Boblett at Rocky.

The guys take a look the following area games last weekend, including victories by Geneseo, Mercer County and Orion.

This weekend’s games are previewed, including the UT vs. Moline game, which could lead to a conference championship if the Maroons win.  Rock Island and Alleman face off in a game that gives Aaron fits when trying to predict an outcome.

The IHSA playoff projections are out and we look at how the area teams are situated for playoff berths.  Doug reacts to his observations of the United Township Panthers (fueled by their pep talk by Chad McGhee) by jumping on the Panther bandwagon.

We then preview the Week 5 games, as the teams take on another conference opponent.
